Summary of the NERG meeting held 8th November 2001
About 25 members assembled in the temporary venue at Briar Hill Community Hall, 246 Mountain view Road, Briar Hill. For those that have not attended here it a great venue with excellent VHF/UHF take off - you may be able to work some DX from the car park before the meeting starts. There were a number of class members sporting new callsigns as a result of the recent exams - congratulations to them.
The speaker for the evening was David Aston VK3THY who gave an excellent talk on digital television and the changes that have been made to our TV broadcasting recently. The promise of high definition and extra functionality was enticing and the ability of the system to cope with ghosting was a real bonus. David works in the industry and brought along some expensive bits for us to look at. I was a bit disappointed that there was not a raffle for a set top box or two - but that's the way it is!
There were the usual announcements over coffee and Ewen VK3OW got in early for the white elephant sale with some free elephants - a number found new homes.
