NERG Amateur Radio Classes
The club runs regular Foundation training and assessment weekends these run on Saturday and Sunday from 8:30am to 4:00pm at the Briar Hill Community Hall, Briar Hill, Victoria.
We have been running monthly courses but this has reduced over the last few months - please register to receive updates as they occur.
Training
covers
some very basic radio theory, safety, interference
issues, regulations, and practical aspects of putting together an
amateur radio station and making contacts. The assessment
consists of a multiple choice exam on the above subjects, and a
practical assessment on setting up a two way radio and making a contact.
A $100
course fee
covers:
Training (All day Saturday & Sunday morning),
Copy of the Foundation Manual,
Lunch (both days),
NERG club membership.
An additional $67 ($35 for those under 18) assessment fee per exam
paper covers the written exam
and
practical assessment on Sunday afternoon (These fees go directly to the
WIA to cover the cost of examination material and administration.)
.
Those that don't pass the assessment or would like more time before attempting the exams or assesment are welcome to attend further NERG Foundation training days within 12 months at no extra cost.
Assessment results will be available on the day. Successful candidates can submit all the paperwork and fees to the WIA on the day so that they can be issued with their new station licence and callsign and be on the air as soon as possible.
Places are limited.

A short Enrollment Session takes place at 7:30pm on a Thursday prior at the Briar Hill Community Hall for registration, payment of training fees, and to pick up a copy of the Foundation Manual.
Detailed information on the Foundation licence can be found at the WIA web site at www.wia.org.au - click on the "Become a Radio Amateur" and then on the menu item "Foundation Licence".
Although some basic experience using two-way radios or electronics can be useful, but the training assumes no previous experience.
